Are you passionate about contributing to the efficient and effective operation of small construction teams in the Southern Downs? This job could be for you!

In this role, you will be completing various construction and works maintenance-related tasks, including bitumen asphalt work such as pothole and edge repairs, guidepost maintenance and sign repairs, concrete form work and planning ahead for materials and any plant required to carry out set tasks. You will be carrying out other general labouring tasks that include manual handling of hand-held power tools, maintaining various plant machinery, and working in the outdoors for extended periods with little or no supervision. In this role, knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety considerations and how to limit risks in the environments where this role operates is very important to keep yourself, your team, and the public as safe as possible at all times.

There are a number of positions available within various crews eg. concreting, drainage, grader, pavement repair and lines and signs. All applications will be considered for all crews. 

 

Term:                         Permanent Full-time

Hours of Work:         76 hours per fortnight

Pay Level:                 $2444.00  to $2473.30 per fortnight (Level 2 -3), plus 12% superannuation and 17.5% annual leave loading 

In addition to the above pay rate, you will receive payment of the following current applicable allowance:

Construction Allowance - $80.90 per fortnight 

In accordance with Council's Enterprise Agreement and the relevant Award. Pay rate dependant on relevant skills and experience. 

Employment Base:  Warwick or Stanthorpe, Queensland

About the Department

The Works Department falls within the Infrastructure, Assets and Projects Directorate to deliver essential services to the community by planning, designing, constructing and maintaining roads, bridges, culverts, stormwater infrastructure, kerb and channel, footpaths and street lighting.  In addition, the Works department provides services to the Department of Transport and Main Roads under contract to maintain sections of the state-controlled road network within Southern Downs. The department further governs activities conducted by members of the community, such as the construction of private driveway accesses. 

Working within the SDRC Works Department will offer you the satisfaction of directly delivering infrastructure services for the Southern Downs community.

The complete Key Responsibilities of this role can be found in the Position DescriptionThese include (but are not limited to):  

  • Operate and maintain a variety of plant, including hand-held power tools and machinery, and Council's bituminous plant;
  • Prepare work sites prior to commencement and clean up following completion of works; and
  • Complete construction and maintenance work on roads, bridges and other Council associated assets.

 

What You Will Need

To be considered for this role, you will need:

  • The legal right to live and work in Australia
  • REQUIRED LICENCES & QUALIFICATIONS
    • A person in this position will need to hold a current certificate for Working in Proximity to Traffic Awareness Parts 1 & 2, or have the ability to obtain one prior to or during commencement;
    • A Class C (Car) licence or greater; and
    • An Occupational Health and Safety Construction Induction Card ("White Card"), or the ability to obtain one prior to commencement.
  • Knowledge of construction and maintenance techniques and operational procedures
  • Sound literacy, numeracy and problem-solving skills, including the ability to complete documentation in the workplace
  • Ability to plan work and complete within set timeframes
  • To be able to demonstrate your competence in relation to all of the Selection Criteria as detailed in the Position Description
