In this role, you will perform general labouring activities such as road construction and bridge maintenance to contribute to the efficient and effective operation of the Work Department, ensuring the smooth sailing of the Infrastructure, Assts & Projects Directorate.
Term: Permanent Full-time
Hours of Work: 76 hours per fortnight
Pay Level: $2444 to $2473.30 per fortnight (Level 2-3), plus 12% superannuation and 17.5% annual leave loading
In addition to the above pay rate, you will receive payment of the following current applicable allowance:
Construction Allowance - $80.90 per fortnight
In accordance with Council's Enterprise Agreement and the relevant Award. Pay rate dependant on relevant skills and experience.

About the Department
The Works Department falls within the Infrastructure, Assets and Projects Directorate to deliver essential services to the community by planning, designing, constructing and maintaining roads, bridges, culverts, stormwater infrastructure, kerb and channel, footpaths and street lighting. In addition, the Works department provides services to the Department of Transport and Main Roads under contract to maintain sections of the state- controlled road network with Southern Downs. The department further governs activities conducted by members of the community, such as the construction of private driveway accesses.
Working within the SDRC Works Department will offer you the satisfaction of directly delivering infrastructure services for the Southern Downs community.

The complete Key Responsibilities of this role can be found in the Position Description. These include (but are not limited to):
- Complete construction and maintenance work on roads and bridges and associated Council assets
- Complete bitumen asphalt work including pothole and edge repairs, guide post maintenance and sign repairs
- Complete concreting work
- Operate and maintain a variety of plant including hand held power tools and machinery, and Council’s bituminous plant
What You Will Need
To be considered for this role, you will need:
- The legal right to live and work in Australia
- A person in this position will need to hold a current certificate for Working in Proximity to Traffic Awareness Parts 1 & 2, or have the ability to obtain.
- A Class C (car) licence or greater is required in this role.
- A white construction card or the ability to obtain one is a mandatory requirement for this role.
- General labouring skills including recent experience undertaking manual handling, labouring and work in the outdoors for extended periods
- Knowledge of construction and maintenance techniques and operational procedures
- Sound literacy, numeracy and problem-solving skills including the ability to complete documentation in the workplace
- Ability to work effectively in a small team
- Proven ability to work with limited or no supervision
- To be able to demonstrate your competence in relation to all of the Selection Criteria as detailed in the Position Description.
